Professor Nigel J. Cook the university of Oslo and Cristiana Ciobanu the University of Adeleide. Surveying and gathering samples at Kisgruva and Tinnsjå copper mines. Both deposits have
previously been drilled and investigated by NGU. Altogether, some 630 metres of cores have been drilled at Kisgruva and about 150 metres of cores at Tinnjså copper mines. Separate reports have been made
for each deposit.
Tinnsjå copper mines. Tinnsjå koppermines are situated on steep slopes and suitable for both quarrying and mining operations. There is a 20-metre wide orezone at
tinnsjå kopper mines, wich exstends for at last 2000 metres. 0,43% Ag and 1% Cu. Presumably, the ore zone does not tapper off at increasing depht.
Kisgruva. Surveys at Kisgruva have
revealed an ore zone of possibly some 3 million tonnes of ore. This ore zone is suitable for both open-cast and underground mining operations. Spectroanalyses carried out in 1979 also showed a peak of an
unknown substance. There is reason to believe that this is rhenium, and samples have been sent for analysis to the University of Oslo.
The price of rhenium is around USD 11000 per kilo. Rhenium
is important in building aero engines, and some 30-40 kg are required per engine. Samples analysed from Kisgruva have also shown tellurium concentrations of 131 ppm. Kisgruva contains: approx. 1% Cu, 1%
Sn, 20% S, 400 g/t Se, 10 g/t Ag, 30% Fe. NGU recommended in 1981 that mining rights on the deposit should be applied for. The deposit was assessed again by NGU in 2007, and may prove to be of economic
significance. There are also unusually large quantities of selenium in the deposit (approx. 430 ppm). Selenium is used in the new thin film solar panels.
Thoriumpower Holding will be applying for mining rights at Kisgruva and Tinnsjå copper mines.
